Hi, Blog # 9
Topic: Stress
A friend was having all kinds of family problems recently. Her Mother died, her brother-in-law died, and her son got a reoccurance of cancer. She asked some simple things to do for stress. I suggested 1. meditation with deep breathing, 2. massage, 3. reading a fiction book, and 4. laughing at TV shows like "I Love Lucy."

Hi, Blog #8
Topic: Tinnitus
Recently a friend asked about a natural health remedy for tinnitus or ringing in the ears. I suggested a homeopathic remedy called Ring Stop from
elixirs.com. Has anyone tried it?

Hi, Blog #7
Topic: Migraines
I am a chronic migraine sufferer. I take extra magnesium and vitamin B2, and drink lots of water. Migraines run in my family, so there is a genetic component. The best remedy I have ever found, after an attack starts, is over-the-counter Headache Buster, a homeopathic nasal spray: http://www.sinusbuster.com/headache-buster.html#page=page-1

Hi, Blog #6
Topic: High Blood Pressure
Recently a friend found out he had high blood pressure and asked me some natural ways to lower it. I came up with the educational list that follows but told him to follow doc's orders. These are suggestions to run by his doc.
- Lose weight
- Aerobic exercise
- Don't smoke
- Take 1 to 2 Omega-3 fish oil capsules per day
- Take 1000 IU Vitamin D per day
- Reduce stress--meditate every day
- Take CoQ10--60 mg twice a day
- Cut salt intake--follow the DASH diet (http://dashdiet.org)

Hi, this is blog #5.
Topic: Having More Energy
Someone recently asked me how to have more energy. She worked and had a family. So I said make sure you get enough sleep, about 8 hours -- make it a priority. Then exercise, a good time is as soon as you get home from work, or in the morning if you are a morning person. A chart helps to keep you on track.
Also, for energy try the supplement ginseng. A new energy drink called FRS Plus (FRS stands for free radical scavenger) is made for athletes but is good for all, with no harmful ingredients: http://nutrition.about.com/od/shoppingforvitamins/fr/frsplus.htm?p=1

Hi There
Topic: Stop Coughing the Natural Way
Here's a way to stop coughing, especially at night, without taking cough medicine. Wrap a wet washcloth around your neck, then wrap a dry towel around that. This works for me! Credit for this goes to my Mother.

Welcome
Topic: Snoring
Having a partner who snores can really disrupt your sleep. And if you don't get enough sleep, you can get sick.
Here are practical tips that helped my sleeping partner stop making all that noise. The tip that did the most good was to lose weight.
Other things that worked were: use 2 pillows, sleep on body's right side, and use a teeth guard prescribed by a dentist.
Of course the non-snorer can always move to a different room for some peace and quiet.

Welcome to the 2nd Post of My New Blog
Topic: Wellness
Being in a state of wellness means to me that you are free of disease, eat nutritious food, exercise almost daily, are a normal weight, manage stress and live a vibrant lifestyle.
Sometimes I get the feeling that the medical community views wellness as a state of not being sick YET. Health screenings or medical tests, seem to be monitoring devices to see if you have succumbed to illness YET, and if necessary, start on the path of prescription drugs.
Now don't get me wrong. I think it is very important to know "your numbers," like cholesterol levels, blood pressure and glucose level. Medical tests like mammography and bone density are good to have.
But I feel wellness means the focus should be on leading a healthy lifestyle with natural health methods instead of waiting to see if you have developed a disease YET.

Welcome to the First Post
Topic: Eating Meat
Sometimes people ask me why I don't eat meat, and here's my top three reasons. First of all I feel it is inhumane to eat cows or pigs. I believe that are thinking and feeling beings. They are exposed to horrible suffering in factory farms. I also do not eat chicken, turkey and lamb, but I do eat seafood.
My second reason is red meat has too much saturated fat and cholesterol. It contains hormones and nitrites. There have been many studies that link red meat to increased risk of cancer and heart disease.
My third reason is that raising animals for food increases global warming, even more than from cars, trucks and trains. Cows produce methane that is 23 times more potent at trapping heat than carbon dioxide.
