Lee Swanson Research reports that Swedish researchers have tied high levels of folic acid (folate) to better academic achievement for teens. Taking a multi-vitamin will give adequate amounts of folate.

Topic: Quality Sleep

Quality sleep, 7 to 9 hours per night, is essential for good health. Researchers have also found that those who sleep less pack on the pounds. A great herbal sleep aid is Swanson's Sleep Essential capsules that help you get asleep and and stay asleep. It is non-habit forming. I use this product every night and it is amazing.

Research is finding that women who drink about 3 daily cups of coffee, decaf or regular, reduce their risk of heart disease and type 2 diabetes. Scientists believe the antioxidants in coffee have anti-inflammatory effects.

Topic: Supplements for General Wellness

A relative was asking me about what supplements she should take for general wellness. I suggested these each day: a multivitamin, 2 fish oil capsules (heart health), vitamin D (even up to 2000 IU) for bone health, anti-cancer and anti-autoimmune diseases, tumeric capsules (anti-Alzheimer's), green tea capsules (anti-cancer) and 1 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon on 100% whole wheat toast (a powerful antioxidant that fights harmful free radicals).

Hi, Blog # 9
Topic: Stress

A friend was having all kinds of family problems recently. Her Mother died, her brother-in-law died, and her son got a reoccurance of cancer. She asked some simple things to do for stress. I suggested 1. meditation with deep breathing, 2. massage, 3. reading a fiction book, and 4. laughing at TV shows like "I Love Lucy."

Hi, Blog #8
Topic: Tinnitus

Recently a friend asked about a natural health remedy for tinnitus or ringing in the ears. I suggested a homeopathic remedy called Ring Stop from elixirs.com. Has anyone tried it?

Hi, Blog #7
Topic: Migraines

I am a chronic migraine sufferer. I take extra magnesium and vitamin B2, and drink lots of water. Migraines run in my family, so there is a genetic component. The best remedy I have ever found, after an attack starts, is over-the-counter Headache Buster, a homeopathic nasal spray:  http://www.sinusbuster.com/headache-buster.html#page=page-1

Hi, Blog #6
Topic: High Blood Pressure

Recently a friend found out he had high blood pressure and asked me some natural ways to lower it. I came up with the educational list that follows but told him to follow doc's orders. These are suggestions to run by his doc.

  1. Lose weight
  2. Aerobic exercise
  3. Don't smoke
  4. Take 1 to 2 Omega-3 fish oil capsules per day
  5. Take 1000 IU Vitamin D per day
  6. Reduce stress--meditate every day
  7. Take CoQ10--60 mg twice a day
  8. Cut salt intake--follow the DASH diet (http://dashdiet.org)

Hi, this is blog #5.
Topic: Having More Energy

Someone recently asked me how to have more energy. She worked and had a family. So I said make sure you get enough sleep, about 8 hours -- make it a priority. Then exercise, a good time is as soon as you get home from work, or in the morning if you are a morning person. A chart helps to keep you on track.

Also, for energy try the supplement ginseng. A new energy drink called FRS Plus (FRS stands for free radical scavenger) is made for athletes but is good for all, with no harmful ingredients:  http://nutrition.about.com/od/shoppingforvitamins/fr/frsplus.htm?p=1

Hi There
Topic: Stop Coughing the Natural Way

Here's a way to stop coughing, especially at night, without taking cough medicine. Wrap a wet washcloth around your neck, then wrap a dry towel around that. This works for me! Credit for this goes to my Mother.
